The University of Melbourne Indonesian Alumni Association aims to provide all alumni, especially those who are in the greater Jakarta area and western part of Indonesia, with opportunities to expand their social and professional connections through our regular events. We are committed to providing peer support for all alumni while at the same time, also passionate about giving back to the community by collaborating with our alumni and various community partners.

Handoko Lie, President
Handoko completed his undergraduate degree in mathematics from the University of Melbourne, where he received two scholarships and two awards. Throughout his undergraduate years, his passion was in education; he was a mentor and assistant mathematics teacher in numerous Victorian primary and secondary schools. He then took a gap year and followed his passion to teach high school mathematics before pursuing his postgraduate studies in mathematics at the Australian National University. Handoko is currently a data science and advanced analytics consultant at IBM Corporation, solving problems in analytics, data and digital strategy for clients across different sectors and industries. He was the only consultant from the Asia Pacific region selected as the IBM Global Initiatives Team's Global Chair in Data Analytics with the mission of connecting more than 3000 young consultants in over 50 countries through various initiatives. Handoko has been active in the UMIAA since 2017 and it has been an enjoyable experience for him to enable Melbourne Uni's alumni to connect with each other and to connect them back with the University.
Henri Bemelmans, Vice President
Henri was born in Geelong, Victoria and completed his undergraduate degree with a double major in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Science, followed by a Diploma in Education, both at Monash University. After teaching for three years in the Catholic education sector, he moved into the financial sector as a systems programmer and analyst, whilst also completing post graduate studies in Information Sciences at Victoria University. After five years in the IT industry, he returned to teaching in Catholic education before commencing further post graduate studies in Education at the University of Melbourne. In 2001 he left Melbourne for Bandung, Indonesia, completing the final semesters of his Master of Education online and graduating in 2002. Currently Head of Secondary Campus at Australian Independent School (AIS) Indonesia, he was also Head of School at Bandung International School, West Java and Principal at ACG School Jakarta. He loves working in education and the opportunity to influence the lives of the children with whom he works. Henri has been involved in the UMIAA for three years and looks forward to supporting the association as it works to provide social and network opportunities for University of Melbourne Alumni across the Indonesian archipelago.
Gustav Rafi, Treasurer
Gustav attended the University of Melbourne for his Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance) and graduated in 2017. He also attended University of Indonesia majoring in Accounting as part of his double degree program. Currently he works at British American Tobacco (Bentoel Group) as Global Graduate Program - Finance. Born in Jakarta in 1995, he is an energetic and enthusiastic person with many interests ranging from history, motor racing, and also comic books.
Astrid Seikka, Secretary
A lovely and bubbly person, Astrid has a passion to improve the health and wellbeing of all kinds of people. She obtained her Medical Degree from Trisakti University in 2011 and thereafter has been working at various health centers. In 2015, Astrid was granted Australia Awards Scholarship and was awarded as Outstanding Student during the Pre-Departure Training. She was accepted into University of Melbourne in which she studied Public Health with a focus in Gender and Women’s Health and Sexual and Reproductive Health. She graduated with a Master of Public Health Degree from University of Melbourne in 2017. Nowadays, she has been working and cooperating with multiple organisations in fighting against HIV/AIDS such as Angsamerah (she primarily works here as a General Practitioner and Project Manager), FHI360, UNAIDS, UNODC, UN Women and many more. Aside from working, she has also been actively participating as a committee member in various University of Melbourne Indonesian Alumni Association events since November 2017 up to now.
Reinaldo Gunawan, Second Secretary
Rei was born in Jakarta and moved to Australia when he was aged 5. He completed primary and secondary education in Perth, Western Australia before moving to Melbourne where he completed his Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Software. He loves using tech to solve problems and has been involved with several startups such as boxaladin.com, kickavenue.com and shoxfashion.com.
