Phillip Higgins
Master of Engineering (Chemical with Business)

Our next alumnus we’re shining the spotlight on is Phillip Higgins! He completed his Master of Engineering (Chemical with Business) mid-year but had already completed a Bachelor of Science (Chemical Systems).

He’s been working for the past six months for Viva Energy in Geelong and so was unable to attend his ceremony and graduated in absentia – but we still reckon it’s cause for celebration regardless!

Throughout his degrees at the University of Melbourne, he made sure to challenge himself outside of the purely academic work of studying. He juggled internships and part-time work which he says really helped to set himself up for life outside of university.

Phil says he won’t miss exams but he will miss the free BBQs on campus, an experience we’re sure many of our alumni will empathise with!

His top three tips for future grads: learn what skills your employer is looking for and demonstrate that you have them; read the paper every day and learn about your chosen industry inside and out; and take risks.
