Sarah Crow - Bachelor of Agriculture

Taking the leap from school to university can be a testing time for many. For Sarah Crow, that transition was made easier thanks to the scholarships she received that helped support her studies.

“The biggest challenge I faced with starting university was moving out of home straight out of school and being able to afford the living and study costs that came along with it,” Sarah explains. “I was lucky enough to receive multiple scholarships that have allowed me to pay rent both in Dookie and Melbourne along with covering public transport and textbook costs.”

Graduating with a Bachelor of Agriculture, Sarah has fond memories of her time at the University of Melbourne. In particular, a rotation at Dookie campus to complete her Certificate III in Agriculture during her second year was a real highlight, she says.

“It was like a 15-week school camp with all your favourite people with a few lectures thrown in the middle.”

Sarah says her time at Dookie allowed her to meet “some amazing people” and urges other students to make use of the campus if they can.

Spending just a semester at the Dookie campus for agriculture students, especially those from the city, can benefit you during your job hunt as the campus is highly recognised among most employers.

Sarah has her sights set on some overseas experience before returning to Australia to continue her career in agriculture.

“I have been given the opportunity to work abroad, in the UK, on a dairy farm during their calving season while also being allowed to travel through Europe,” she says. “When I return, I’m hoping to apply for a graduate program related to animal nutrition, genetics or dairy.”
