[2015] Annual Heritage Society Luncheon
Members and guests enjoyed a thought-provoking keynote speech from prominent composer, festival director and current Vice-Chancellor’s Fellow Sir Jonathan Mills AO. [2015] A Morning of Treasures
The University is home to some of Australia’s most remarkable cultural collections, many of which are housed in the Baillieu Library. Members explored the richness of the Melbourne catalogue as well as hearing from the University Librarian, Philip Kent. He spoke of the important teaching and research use of the Baillieu’s cultural collections, saying bequests to the Library provide resource documents unmatched by other Australian universities. Materials and Conservation student Amy Walsh also explained the benefit students receive from overseas internships, detailing her own study at the University of Birmingham.   Event photos →1_whitespace_650x100.jpg

[2015] Tour of the Melbourne Theatre Company
Executive Director of the MTC, Virginia Lovett, and Associate Artistic Director and Melbourne alumnus, Sam Strong, welcomed the Heritage Society to a guided tour of the MTC, which is also a department of the University of Melbourne. Guests saw an early rehearsal of Death and the Maiden in which Susie Porter, Steve Mouzakis and Eugene Gilfedder performed a script reading of one of the play’s scenes, preceded by an introduction from director Leticia Cáceres. [2015] Melbourne School of Design Tour
Heritage Society members were among the first people through the doors of the impressive new Melbourne School of Design. Following the tour, guests enjoyed morning tea in the gardens of the fabled Shigeru Yura-designed Japanese Room, which has been sensitively restored from its original 1960s design.   Event photos →1_whitespace_650x100.jpg

[2015] A Conversation About Mental Health
Members and guests attended a special presentation by an esteemed panel of University of Melbourne mental health experts. Professor Ian Everall, Cato Chair of Psychiatry and Head of the University’s Department of Psychiatry, headed the discussion, which explained the latest efforts to combat major mental health challenges. Speakers included Professor Christos Pantelis, a research fellow whose specialisation is in adolescent brain development; Associate Professor Kathryn Ellis, whose Academic Unit for Psychiatry of Old Age conducts research focusing on mental health and neural degeneration and Associate Professor Carol Harvey, an expert in psychosocial aspects of prevention, treatment recovery from mental illness.   Event photos →1_whitespace_650x100.jpg
