A Prestigious Rowing Opportunity: The Jopling Family Rowing Scholarship

A new scholarship has been created to attract the best and brightest rowers to study and row at the University of Melbourne.

Jopling Family Rowing Scholarship The Jopling Family Rowing Scholarship becomes Australia's preeminent university rowing scholarship, supporting up-and-coming student-athletes as they strive to reach their rowing and academic potential at Australia's number one ranked university.

From 2020, the scholarship will provide financial support of up to $25,000 per year, as well as additional in-kind support for up to four years, depending on the course of study of the scholarship recipient.

The values inherent in rowing and their application to other avenues of life inspired Melbourne alum Peter Jopling AM QC to establish the Jopling Family Rowing Scholarship. The scholarship recognises and honours the contribution made to rowing, education and the Victorian community by Peter's grandfather and father – John Jopling Senior and John Jopling Junior.

Successful scholarship applicants will have demonstrated community leadership, be strong academically and be highly talented rowers. The Jopling Family Rowing Scholarship honours that passion, providing future generations with an opportunity to excel, in the expectation that it will inspire them to give back to the community in turn.

To be considered for the Jopling Family Rowing Scholarship, students must be:

  • An Australian citizen or permanent resident;
  • A rower with demonstrated experience and excellence;
  • Accepted for, or already enrolled, in a course at the University of Melbourne; and
  • Available to row for the University and Melbourne University Boat Club.

In alignment with the values of the Jopling family, it is highly desired that candidates also have demonstrated their aspirations to be leaders in the community.
