University Symphony Orchestra Tour and alumni pre-concert receptions
Over 100 talented young musicians from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music will be performing for the first time internationally next month.
Led by Chief Conductor, Associate Professor Richard Davis, the concert performance will take place in Singapore at the prominent Esplanade Concert Hall on Tuesday 25 September and in China at the Shanghai Symphony Concert Hall on Friday 28 September.
In Singapore, our alumni are provided an exclusive opportunity to attend with a guest to the concert performance: http://alumni.online.unimelb.edu.au/uomsgconcert
In Shanghai, our alumni have an opportunity to attend a pre-concert reception and then head to the concert performance. During the reception, guests will hear insights from the Chancellor Allan Myers AC QC, the Orchestra's renowned conductor, Associate Professor Richard Davis, and network with fellow Melbourne alumni and key leaders from the University: http://alumni.online.unimelb.edu.au/uomsosh
About the concert
“In the first half of this concert, we will take you on an ocean voyage – first with alumna composer Alice Humphries’ Tides and then with Elgar’s beautifully crafted setting of five sea poems, Sea Pictures. The second half will immediately pull on your emotions, from despair to triumph, with Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony, which has remained one of his most popular works. The audience, in the premiere of this work, openly wept and gave the composer a 30-minute standing ovation.”
