Vice-Chancellor receives lifetime achievement award

University of Melbourne Vice-Chancellor Glyn Davis has been presented with the AFR Higher Education Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award is a recognition by Australian higher education leaders for a career of outstanding service to the sector.

Professor Davis was presented with the award during the AFR Higher Education Summit 2018 in Melbourne.

The AFR award recognises that Professor Davis has contributed significantly to the higher education sector over an extended period, including through the creation of the Melbourne Model curriculum reform and as a policy advocate for higher education.

“He is the leading figure in Australian higher education,” Australian Financial Review Higher Education Editor Rob Bolton said of Vice-Chancellor Davis.

Professor Davis has been Vice-Chancellor at the University of Melbourne for 13 years and was previously Vice-Chancellor at Griffith University. His tenure at the University concludes on 30 September this year.

A measure of his leadership impact has been the University's rise from 92 to 38 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities during his tenure.
